On Tuesday I returned to Deeplish, partly as the group were so keen to do more sewing and also because Ramadan is starting next weekand having collected so many drawn signatures I needed help converting them to stitch. We had a good turn out and a few brought signatures from their daughters to sew, surprisingly no one brought a husband or son’s, maybe the sewing activity is seen as too female? I will ask Attiya.
Serendipity played a part again, round the corner I passed a charity shop run by three Asian men and packed to the brim with stuff. They quickly directed me to the bedding section and I came away with a bundle of pillowcases and cut offs from sheets. On arriving home I sorted through and found the sheets were Egyptian cotton, lovely. Makes me wonder what the industry is like there now. The fabrics can be used in the “kits” I will leave on the desk at Touchstones for anyone who can’t attend a workshops but wants to be part of the project.
